Project Summary
After losing another vicious fight to a kid half his age Donny, a down-and-out boxer, encounters Diane, a hooker trying to kill herself by jumping off a bridge. Both are “punch-drunk”. One from too many hits to the head and the other, too many hits to the heart!
These two lost souls meet and magic happens. But Donny finds himself embarking on a dangerous journey that takes him into a world filled with pimps, junkies, hookers and criminals, in order to rescue Diane's baby, Darla, from the arms of a crack addict. As the days pass, Donnie discovers what it means to be a protector, provider and a father.
He is assisted on his journey by two men dealing with their own demons. Detective Jason Stuart and Trainer Mike.
Detective Stuart is a renegade cop. Haunted by the murder of his ex-wife. Hell-bent on cleaning up the streets, he seeks to fill the void by putting away the worst of the worst, even if it means crossing the line.
Trainer Mike is a former heavyweight champion, but banned from the game for illegal gambling. He is trying to scrape together a few dollars to pay for his mother's medical bills.
Both these men come to Donny's aid, again and again, despite their own tragic circumstances, and all agree that, at least once, they will do the right thing – find Diane’s baby, Darla.
To make matters more complicated, Darla has been adopted by the girlfriend of a mobster's son. In order to rescue her, Donny must find a way to steal the baby from the mob itself and not get killed in the process.
Their quest to save Darla is also a last ditch stand to save themselves, and move away from the violence, pimps, johns, drugs and criminals, that have become part of their very existence. Donny quickly realizes that coming out on top requires a lot more than the guts and grit he ever needed in the ring, especially when the stakes and rewards are so much higher and important.
Saving the baby maybe the goal but with it comes the satisfaction of achieving the seemingly, impossible, restoration of faith in themselves and a feeling of personal redemption that will allow each of them to move forward with their lives on a new a path.
This is ultimately a heart-wrenching story of four lonely souls, emotionally and unexpectedly brought together, unknowingly on a path to redemption, if they are prepared for the sacrifices they will need to make.
